Interesting, but isn't it faster and most effective to go with prweb or other paid services?

As much as I like the content in traditional newspapers, I rarely read them anymore. It's much more convenient to read papers online- the news is updated more frequently, and you don't have to deal with the awkward folding of the pages.

From a PR side, as you mentioned, it is also much, much easier to distribute your content online. It's more effective, and it gets picked up a lot quicker (and more frequently) than traditional media does. Guess it's the nature of the game, though. Before online there was print, just like before television, there was radio. I wonder what happens next, though?

Great information, we are now in the information age (as said by Time Magazine). The ability to establish credibility and reach millions of people with little or no out of pocket money, gives small businesses an outlet to be your own publicist.

It is amazing how traditional advertising just is not effective. The other day my nine year old son asked why there are commercials on TV. I explained that those companies pay to be able to tell us about their products and services, hoping we will buy them. His response: Those commercials don't make me want to buy anything from them. What a waste a money!

Great article, Dana, and very true. I hate to admit, but the only paper I ever read is my small town paper and that's only because they don't have an up-to-the-minute website. I've found myself thinking that the USA Today and what not are "yesterday's news". It's sad, but that's what it has turned into.

I'd also throw in the suggestion of guest posting on other blogs to build relationships and get exposure to other readers. This can help build authority and establish new business/customers/clients/etc. "PR" has so many interactive outlets that there are a ton of opportunities for those willing to put in the work (or money for outsourcing at least) to jump on it!
